Hello all. I'm very new to the tinkerboard and im having problems with the 3.5mm headphone jack and audio.
I basically get nothing. tried using youtube videos as a source for the audio.

I think Pulse audio fixed the problem when i fiddled with it once. The problem with that though is I can only get pulse audio to launch once out of every 50 tries. every other time it just says "Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please wait...". and that one time I did get it to work and fixed the audio issue, it went back to no audio when I rebooted.

Not sure what if its the board itself or the program.
Any help would be appreciated.

What OS and version have you installed?
Are you using a 5v 3amp power supply?
Are you using a fan?
Reinstall the OS.  Maybe a glitch.
Install another OS like Armbian.
ASUS is high quality components. Small chance it could be hardware defect.

1 Run an audio mp3
2 Go to PulseAudio>Playback look for the player sound level and make sure Head Set is selected
3 Go to PulseAudio>Configuration Make sure rockchip codec is Analog Stereo Output

Hi Thanks for getting back to me. I honestly don't know the OS installed it was part of a package that came with retropie. Other users installed the same package and don't have issues.
No fan is being used.
I will try reinstalling the OS again.
Can you point me to where the version number is located so I can provide those details in the future?
Thanks

Here is your choices.

I recomment TinkerOSplus v2.0.4    Mikerr's at the bottom.
Armbian is a good one. All 3 video players don't work. I don't know why.
I prefer TOS at this time.

Another thing.  Make sure the audio plug is pushed in all the way. It may not be.  Does happen.

Note: After installing you have to run the Tinker-config to get all your microSD space back.
Remember this.

sudo tinker-config
advanced options
expand filesystem
Shutdown

thanks for all this info. Any idea why pulse audio is "waiting to establish connection"? Is it looking for a server or something? seems weird to me that an audio setting program needs to connect to a server to work

I don't know why.  I don't know about retropi.
Maybe a glitch and reinstalling.  I just think it's programmers need to look at it in retropi.
Other than that I don't know.
You can wait for another response.
looks like it WAS an install glitch. formatted the sd card and reinstalled. works as it should now
