Use MicroUSB to connect USB-Hub

Hello!
 
I would like to know if it is possible to use the microUSB-Connector for connecting a USB device (a 7-port USB hub in my case)?
My Tinkerboard is powered through the GPIO pins, so i don't use the microUSB for power input.
My 7-port USB hub has its own power supply.
 
Is it even possible from the hardware architecture of the board?
 
Do i need some extra kernel packages and/or USB OTG to make it work?

I tried following images:
TinkerOS Linaro Stretch V2.0.10
Newest Armbian Mainline and Legacy
Android Nougat V14.2.2.73

On Android i got the following issue that the system freezes when connecting the OTG cable.

I'd pose a warn about the risk of unprotected port, which are not the 4 type A one.
Light blue words might be a link. Have you try to click on them? Big Grin

What are the risks of using the micro USB?

This I don't have the concrete proof of what that port is made. I'm not Asus engineer, but for a safety reason I suspect that doesn't have any over-current protection scheme on that port. So it may be fried inadvertently.
Try to consult the schematics.
Light blue words might be a link. Have you try to click on them? Big Grin

I'm not to familiar with schematics, but from what I see the VBUS from the microUSB connector is connected to TPD1S514-1YZR (TPD1S514x Family USB Charger Overvoltage, Surge and ESD Protection for VBUS PIN) and then the OVP VBUS goes further to the BQ24392RSER (USB 2.0 High Speed Switch with USB Battery Charging).

So i guess this is safe?
