I cannot access my local network using PCManFM 1.2.5. If I try Go, Network, I get an error dialog stating "The specified location is not supported". The address box shows network:/// . Any help appreciated.

If you need to access Windows shares, do this
sudo apt-get install samba
But I still have problems with PCManFM
So I just installed Thunar, a much better file manager that is the default with the superior XFCE environment
It has browse network on the side pane. It will show Windows shares.
If you're not trying to access Windows shares (smb/samba) then I can't help
