Plex Medie Server transcoding
#1
Hi there.

I've installed Plex Medie Server on my Tinker, running TinkerOS 1.8. The movies are located on a NAS Server, and the destination is mounted and works fine. I'm using Apple TV 4 to the Plex Client and the movies are MKV so all movies need to be transcoded. The Tinker has some troubles with the movies in 1080p and can't transcode them.

Does any of you have some tips to setup Plex Medie Server. Maybe use a USB as destination for transcode files, change setup i PMS or something else.

Apologies but verbatim from https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201774043

No transcoding: Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz (NAS devices based on ARM or PowerPC processors should also be capable of at least one stream with no transcoding)
Single 720p transcode: Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
Single 1080p transcode: Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz

Its not going to happen, not enough grunt mate

The Odroid XU4 is capable of transcoding, but of course it can throw 8 cores at it. (I've used one in that application). I did have to liquid cool it though...

I keep playing with a dual socket quad core xeon with 16gb as a pms, it works well with 4k TC but spinning it up and down every time is a pain and to be honest if a less than 20watt spmc arm board can do the same without raw cpu TC its a no brainer. My lower electricity bill wins.....
