Flint OS v1.0 Available
#1
Hey Guys

We have been working hard to provide some additional tweaks to our Tinker board builds as well as upgrading to the latest stable release of Chromium. The highlight are listed below.
  • Based on R59 of Chromium OS
  • Native Printing options
  • New Settings page
  • New API’s for Kiosk Apps
  • Improved memory management (should help with video streaming)
  • Improved HDMI output (should allow compatibility with more screens)
  • Updated Graphics drivers (removed scrolling flickering)
  • Auto expansion of the OS to utilise all space on the SD card (will be rolling this to our other builds)
  • Included additional command line programs to make the the shell experience more pleasant

There are a couple of known issues to be aware of.
  • Clicking the networking area in the desktop UI will cause a browser restart if you are using both the ethernet and wifi.
  • There are still some issues with the Tinker board not outputting an image to certain displays this appears to be an issue with other Tinker board distributions and we are working with Asus to improve this for all distributions. Currently native 1080p displays are the best option.
Let us know what you think and what to include for the next version.

Cheers
Will

Thanks
Tried this last night and it seems to work well
Tried 1080p videos in YouTube and they seemed to work
Perfectly.
Tried a few apps they worked ok, but no sound via the 3.5mm jack.
I thought android apps could be installed, but it seems not. There are few apps I wanted in the chrome Web store or they needed me to be online.
So I think this is a fast operating system with a great browser, but I would want the ability to install android apps for me to use it full time

I wanted to give this a try, but it's not picking up my wireless keyboard, which has a USB dongle. It works in android. Is there something I can do to enable it here?

Yeah if development is just for creating a browser for the tinker board, there are many other distributions that don't have the problems flint does with 100% working browsers. If you're on debian, you can even stream online media services like netflix. Is there any plan to add the android app compatibility? that is really the only use of chromeos.
