Honestly, it's a matter of scope. It works for what you're needing from it.

For me, it's just completely unsuitable. 

For someone looking for an interesting toy, it works. As long as they don't want everything Asus promises it does, and are willing to literally "tinker" with it, it's fine.

But when someone who needs wifi, bluetooth, sound, and actual working USB all at the same time, it's another dust collector.

I've decided it will go back in the box and sit on the shelf next to my Pi board. I'm moving on to something else that provides what I need, with actual support.

IF Asus actually delivered on their promises, and provided actual support for their product, the tinker board could be a useful tool. But for now, it's just a toy. And I'm far too busy to waste any more time playing with it.

All that works for me, including the Arduino IDE. Maybe you have a bad Tinker Board. Mine has done everything that was promised and actually more than I expected.
